Same as you guys. I have been systematically keeping Wednesdays free.
I can't exclude that what happend yesterday at work won't happen again (I was home around 22:15), but thankfully it's not common.

Happy new year 2012 for everyone!
Are we getting back to business this week already? I'm ready to challenge that big boss we met last time...

I can play tomorrow, but it will be my last session. A couple of reasons:
I have given up on the Hackmaster system. I no longer believe it will become a good system to my liking (I have lost faith in the designers). I'll check it again in a couple of years.
My exercise schedule has changed, making wednesday not a good day to play.
Our gaming sessions take loads of time getting next to nothing done.
Martin.

Alas folks, something has come up and I can no longer commit to a game this week myself! Please accept my apologies, I should be OK for next Wednesday. ...but it will be my last session. A couple of reasons: I have given up on the Hackmaster system. I no longer believe it will become a good system to my liking (I have lost faith in the designers). I'll check it again in a couple of years. My exercise schedule has changed, making wednesday not a good day to play. Our gaming sessions take loads of time getting next to nothing done. Martin, thanks for playing. I personally try to follow the philosophy "Don't knock it 'til you've tried it", so thank you for giving HackMaster a go before coming to your conclusion. (I came to a similar decision about D&D4e a couple of years ago, after playing it.) I hope you will indeed come back to the game and give it another go when all the proper books (HoB, PHB & GMG) are out, and the rules finalised. Regarding the time:action ratio - I understand what you're saying, and agree that some weeks we are slow. As the GameMaster I must take some responsibility for that. I must admit that I have never been the most vocal of people, so to run a game purely by voice (i.e. without being able to use body language, eye contact, etc. to keep things flowing) is a challenge for me - but ultimately should make me a better GM. Regarding Ainon - do you want to 'keep' your character, or may I take him as an NPC for the campaign? If the latter I can transfer 'ownership' on the Obsidian Portal site. Thanks again.

Good morning and a happy new year. Yes, I am around and yes, I could have played were we playing today. If something changes and we play in the end please tell me. Sorry to see you go, Martin. Out of curiosity, which is your system of preference now? And what was it that you lost faith in the designers? Not having the beta, I don't know what changes they made. For us that remain, it is true that we don't accomplish much per session and at some point we need to address that. But for me that is not as major as to have the adrenalin running (which we should also address). We can discuss it next time we play.

I'm also sorry to hear about your decision Martin but hopefully you won't quit gaming altogether I believe others agree that you are still welcome to follow our adventures here on Kandaaria boards anyway. About the gaming speed, don't be too harsh on yourself Jan, I blame the technical difficulties for at least some portion of our 'slowness' and I believe speed will improve as we get more used to the maptool interface and it's quirks. Antonios, it was a pleasure to meet you in person last week. I hope you enjoyed your whole visit here in Finland and didn't get any fireworks injuries during the new year eve. I am still ready to play tonight if there will be some last minute changes to make it possible. I will check the skype around the scheduled starting time at least for a little chat with anyone online if nothing else.

Regarding Ainon - do you want to 'keep' your character, or may I take him as an NPC for the campaign? If the latter I can transfer 'ownership' on the Obsidian Portal site. Feel free to take him as an NPC, I'm sure the guys need the help Out of curiosity, which is your system of preference now? And what was it that you lost faith in the designers? No system of preference. We're trying out a simple one called Castles & Crusades, will see how that goes. The problems with Hackmaster have been growing on me for a while. We played the old version for around 5 years, then switched when the new basic came out. While we accepted the old was a messy pile of rules here and there, the new basic looked promising. But it became clear to me that they don't have a focus on rules, they just add what they feel like without keeping it consistent with existing stuff. For example, in the HOB, there are around 15 different ways of describing a saving throw scattered around the monster descriptions. Or if you try to find a simple mechanic for gaze attacks, it's slightly different in every monster that has one.. This continues in the beta, where if you try to compare class skill bonuses you will quickly see the trend of things not matching. There are way too many different approaches to how classes get skills at creation and level-up. And the combat chapter is giving headaches all around - try figuring out what engaged means or how unarmed combat works for example. I think they're good at flavour, but they are seldom able to describe a mechanic once and then refer to it. Martin.

C&C I have never played, but have invariably heard good words about its simplified approach to things. I understand what you say. Last week I got access to the PHB (I can tell you about that guys) and I started devouring it. Understanding that it is still an unfinished document, I admit I thought it peculiar that this is considered a beta. There are many things missing, and many that could really use clarifications. My examination was kind of cursory, mind you. That having being said, are playing this Wednesday? If yes, would you like to join us Martin this time to have a proper closing on this one endeavour?

That having being said, are playing this Wednesday? As usual I am available and ready for gaming this week. Speaking of C&C, Martin have you checked the Lamentations of the Flame Princess: Weird Fantasy Roleplaying? It is written by James Raggi who lives in Helsinki. (So I can't really tell if it should be called Finnish or American game ) Anyway I like Jim's work. The system is light (OSR) and very coherent. Jim also excels in his adventure writing skills so I would really recommend you all to read some of his adventures for ideas. Some adventures: Death Frost DoomHammers of the GodThe Grinding Gear

Hey guys, seeing how Jan has not confirmed that we are indeed playing today, I am afraid the gf claimed me for cleaning up the basement and restocking it with the apartment's overflowing useless garbage. I hope everything is ok Jan and that your non-posting is not because of anything serious. I will try if possible to connect at the usual time. Seeing however what I am now supposed to do I admit I am not superhopeful. Off I go. EDIT: I must be on drugs or what. The whole day today I was convinced that it was a Wednesday, the tons of work at the office didn't help either. Woah. So yes, I can still play tomorrow.

Guys, I'm really sorry - I have to postpone again. I've burned my thumb and a couple of fingers making tea tonight. Critically failed my Cooking check! We've done first aid and are seeing how they are, and if we need to go to the hospital...
